Networking Lunch Guest Speakers
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
One of Britain's greatest Paralympic athletes, Tanni, amassed a remarkable medal haul over 16 years and five Paralympic Games of 11 gold, 4 silver and a bronze.
In 2005 she became ‘Dame' Tanni Grey-Thompson for her services to sport. In March 2010, Tanni was created a life peer and was conferred as Baroness Grey-Thompson, of Eaglescliffe in the County of Durham.
Tanni has continued to be involved in sport and physical activity. She is a Board Member of the London Marathon, the Sportsaid Foundation, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Join In. In addition to this she is also a Board Member of several organisations including Transport for London, the London Legacy Development Corporation and Tennis Wales.
As a working peer Tanni uses her experience and knowledge during debates in the House and she has spoken on a range of issues including Disability Rights, Welfare Reform, and of course, Sport.
Joanna Rowsell
Joanna is a retired cyclist who was on the Great Britain Cycling Team. She won gold medals in the Women's Team pursuit at both the London 2012 Olympics and Rio 2016 Olympics, as well as five World Championship titles. Joanna and her teammates remain the current World Record holder for the 3k women's Team Pursuit (3:14.0).
Joanna received her MBE from Queen Elizabeth II in February 2013. Joanna retired from cycling in 2017 and, after obtaining a degree in human biology, became a medical student in 2020.
She is a published author of the Amazon best-selling business book “More Balls Than Most” and is a co-founder of Start Up Britain. Taking all this in her stride, she also manages to train for charity bike rides and triathlon and came 10th in the 2011 World Triathlon Championships in Beijing.Joanna was motivated to join Women in Sport as she is passionate about equal opportunities for women and girls in sport, firmly believing in the huge benefits of sport for both mental and physical health. Her role as Partnerships Manager involves developing strategic partnerships and reach within both the sports and corporate sectors to further the mission of the charity.
When not working at Women in Sport, Joanna also enjoys commentating and can regularly be heard on Eurosport's coverage of track cycling and women's road racing.
