Mini Wrexham Open makes welcome return ahead of city's World Tennis Tour event next month

The Mini Wrexham Open is back for a second year, offering young tennis players from across North Wales an exciting chance to be part of next month's Lexus Wrexham Open.

The World Tennis Tour event, set to feature British and international women's tennis stars, returns to Wrexham & Tennis Padel Centre between October 18-25.

Children from North Wales tennis clubs have been invited to get involved with the prestigious tournament, which was won last year by Welsh player Mimi Xu, by taking part in the Wrexham Mini Open. A fun competition organised by Tennis Wales for children aged 10 and under, it provides local youngsters with an opportunity to experience just what it's like to be a professional player by having the chance to play on the Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre's show courts, surrounded by stadium seating, ahead of the Lexus Wrexham Open's semi-final matches.

Last year's first Mini Wrexham Open proved to be a big hit with children and their clubs, with this year's event set to be even more popular with entry numbers expected to rise to nearly 100 young players.

Rebecca Hannibal, Competitions and Education Coordinator for Tennis Wales, said: "The Mini Wrexham Open was created in 2025 to give young aspiring players throughout North Wales a unique experience on their doorstep. We welcomed 10U players from venues across the county to an experience day on site at the Lexus Wrexham Open.

"We have expanded our offering this year by inviting 8U and 10U players from venues across North Wales to get involved in the activation event.

"We have so far seen venues from across Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham host 8U internal Mini Wrexham themed events at their venues.

"With the 10U stage taking place this month, we are optimistic to see close to 100 children engaged in the initiative and inspired by the tournament.

"All 8U players and 10U finalists will be invited to the Mini Wrexham Open experience day on-site at the Lexus Wrexham Open where they will receive a VIP backstage tour, limited edition merchandise, a chance to play on the show courts and tickets to watch the semi-finals.

"Being able to offer recreational players an opportunity like this is fantastic; to not only inspire the next generation but create tennis memories they can look back on for years to come."
