Mika Stojsavljevic, our 2025 runner-up, has been called up by Great Britain ahead of next week's official launch for this year's Lexus Wrexham Open.
Rising star Stojsavljevic, beaten by Welsh ace Mimi Xu in last October's singles final at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre, is included in Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup team for the first time. Stojsavljevic, 17, joins Sonay Kartal, Harriet Dart and Jodie Burrage in the team selected by GB captain Anne Keothavong to face Australia in a qualifier in Melbourne next month.
“It's fantastic to hear that Mika has been named in the Great Britain team,” said Dave Courteen, the Lexus Wrexham Open promoter.
“Mika enjoyed an excellent week in Wrexham at last year's event, not dropping a set on her way to reaching the final. “She impressed everyone with her ability before eventually being edged out by an inspired Mimi Xu in an exciting final enjoyed by a capacity crowd of more than 600 spectators.
“Mika is a former US Open junior champion and her first Great Britain call up so soon after playing in Wrexham just further underlines the quality of the players this event attracts. “We are really looking forward to the tournament returning to Wrexham in October after it proved so popular after coming to North Wales for the first time last year.”
The 2026 Lexus Wrexham Open - the biggest women's tennis tournament to be played in the UK this year, outside of the Lawn Tennis Association's grass court season - will be held on the indoor courts at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre between October 18-25. The launch event for the ITF World Tennis Tour tournament takes place at Wrexham's Ramada Plaza hotel next Tuesday, March 24 (8-10am).
Around 150 guests, including many from the local business community, will attend an event organised by tournament promoters Mosaic Group alongside West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce.
Dave added: “Last year's tournament was so impressively supported by local businesses, and the feedback we received from everyone involved was fantastic. “The whole week could not have gone any better and the fact it all ended with Mimi Xu, such a talented Welsh player, winning both the singles and doubles titles made it even more special.
“The official launch is an opportunity to outline just what the benefits are locally from bringing such a high-profile tournament as the Lexus Wrexham Open to the city.
“We will be joined by a wide range of guests as we start the countdown to this year's tournament.”
