The team from Wrexham Tennis and Padel Centre, led by Centre Manager, Kirsty Sawyer, receiving the Competition of the Year Award at the Tennis Wales Awards evening in Cardiff last weekend
The Lexus Wrexham Open team are proud to have won “Competition of the Year” at the Tennis Wales Awards sponsored by Veygo.
The team from the Wrexham Tennis and Padel centre were invited to join members of the Welsh tennis community for an evening at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff, recognising the dedication, and impact of those working and play at all levels of the tennis and padel.
Tennis Wales was delighted to welcome a wide range of guests from across all areas of Wales, including key event sponsors Veygo, whose ongoing support plays an important role in recognising and celebrating achievement across the Welsh tennis landscape.
Maria Rees, Operations Manager at Tennis Wales, said, “The Tennis Wales Awards are always a special occasion, giving us the chance to shine a spotlight on the people that make our sport thrive. We’re incredibly proud of everything achieved across the Welsh tennis and padel landscape in 2025 and grateful to Veygo, and our many category sponsors for their continued support in helping us celebrate those successes.”
Recognition for the Lexus Wrexham Open comes after the inaugural event was held in October last year and set world attendance records for an ITF World Tour W100 event with the event also being a hit on BBC iPlayer with over 60,000 watched on that platform.
Tournament Promoter, Dave Courteen, said, “Our priority is to deliver an excellent event that is a great experience for players, spectators and officials whilst inspiring people to become more connected with tennis. The support we received from the Wrexham community was first class and enabled us to exceed our best expectations for the event. The challenge now is to build on 2025 and make this year even better. To have received this award is so encouraging and we look forward to this October and introducing new features to improve the Lexus Wrexham Open and its impact.”
