Rising British star Mika Stojsavljevic, a former US Open junior champion, has received a main draw wild card for the Lexus Wrexham Open, which starts this weekend. The 16-year-old is one of four British players to be given a wild card for the ITF World Tennis Tour event at Wrexham Tennis & Padel Centre. Stojsavljevic hit the headlines last year when she won the girls’ singles title at the US Open. She enjoyed another impressive run to the semi-finals in New York last month as she went close to defending her title.

Alice Gillan, Ella McDonald and Alicia Dudeney, who has won three ITF singles titles this year, are the other British players to receive main draw wild cards for Wrexham. The tournament’s qualifying rounds will be played on Sunday and Monday ahead of the main draw matches starting next Tuesday. Amarni Banks and Lily Miyazaki will be the highest-ranked British players competing in Wrexham following the withdrawal of Jodie Burrage because of injury.

Dave Courteen, tournament promoter, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Mika, Alice, Ella and Alicia to Wrexham to add to the already strong entry list of British players in the main draw.

“They may yet be joined by more Brits in the main draw depending on what happens in qualifying.

“So much planning has taken place over the last few months ahead of the Lexus Wrexham Open being played for the first time.

“The response the event has received from the local community has been outstanding, and we are really excited as the start of what will be a fantastic tournament moves ever closer.”
